Did you go crazy to music by Suzan & Freek, Rondé or Chef’Special? Or perhaps with artists from another stage? The 2024 Overijssel Liberation Festival (BFO) in Zwolle is over again. Time to enjoy it for a while.
The weather gods were kind, because it was mainly sunny on Sunday, May 5, in the afternoon. The main stage was almost packed in the afternoon and artists were also happy to be there. For example, Flemming said that when he heard that he was to become an Ambassador of Freedom, he ‘wanted to perform in Zwolle’.
‘We needed this’
The organization also looks back on a successful Liberation Festival. ‘Really really good’ and ‘we needed this’ are words that festival director Annemien Brugging uses in the Stentor when she tells how she experienced the Overijssel Liberation Festival. This year’s festival attracted 135,000 visitors. Last year 80,000 visitors came, mainly due to the bad weather.
A look back:
Opening concert
According to the organization, the opening concert returned due to ‘popular demand’. At 11 a.m., youth symphony orchestra De Vuurvogel and Toontje Lager could be heard. You can know this pop group from the song Stiekem gedanst.

Don’t stand
Chairs were placed especially for this concert. They were removed when it ended at noon.

Chef’Special
An acute hernia of singer Joshua Nolet seemed to throw a spanner in the works, but the band Chef’Special was ‘normal’ on the main stage at 3 p.m.

Music on the water
There were more stages at the festival. Like here on the water. This was the Deltion VIP Lounge, which you had to get to by boat.

Closing act
Suzan and Freek were the closing act of the festival. They repeatedly asked the audience to turn on their phone’s flashlight function. The public responded en masse.
