Did you already have the Frisian flag ready for the Europa Party on Saturday evening? Then you can clean it up again. The Frisian flag may not be taken to the Oldehoofsterkerkhof in Leeuwarden.

The message from the organization of the event is clear: only flags of participating countries are allowed. This means that no Frisian flag should be visible on Saturday evening. So if you were planning to support Joost with a Frisian flag, you will have to switch to a different plan.

International regulations

This decision does not only come from the organization, which is owned by the Municipality of Leeuwarden, the Province of Fryslân, the Neushoorn music venue and Visit Fryslân. They are obliged to adhere to the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The scoring will be broadcast live from the Oldehoofsterkerhof on Saturday. The organization therefore takes action against ‘wrong’ use of flags.

The organization uses a certain escalation ladder for enforcement, it said. “For example, we will check whether people come in with a flag and we will inform people that this is not the intention. The next step is to take away the flag,” said a spokesperson for Visit Leeuwarden.
