HBO Max does have good news for people with the lifetime discount

--

HBO Max has provided clarification about the consequences of the new subscriptions for Dutch people with a lifetime discount. These viewers expressed their dissatisfaction about an announced change, but there appears to be good news for this group after all.

HBO Max is introducing new subscriptions in the Netherlands, including a price increase for the standard subscription. Early subscribers, who receive a lifetime discount of 50 percent, will also be transferred to the new standard subscription in August. Users with the discount will then pay 4.99 euros per month, while now they usually only pay 2.99 euros. Dissatisfaction arose among this group of HBO viewers, because it seemed as if they could no longer use 4K image quality and Dolby Atmos sound after August.

Support for 4K and Dolby Atmos will soon only be covered by the new Premium subscription, which costs 13.99 euros per month. But HBO said today that Standard subscribers who have the lifetime discount will keep 4K and Dolby Atmos. “If you currently have a subscription that includes 4K, you can continue to stream supported titles in 4K and Dolby Atmos when the revamped HBO Max launches. We’ll let you know in advance if we need to make any changes to this in the future,” the streaming service said in responses to customers.

Netflix is also becoming more expensive

Today, competitor Netflix also announced price increases in the Netherlands. Dutch Netflix subscribers will pay between 1 and 3 euros more per month. Many other streaming services, such as Disney+, Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video, have also increased their subscription prices in our country in recent months.
