Can we look for eggs in the open air in Utrecht during Easter, or do you have to hide them indoors? According to Rico Schröder, meteorologist at WeerOnline.nl, the weather forecast for Easter is still uncertain.

According to Rico, there is still a lot of uncertainty about the temperature: “The boundary between soft and cooler air is in our environment. In the soft air the mercury can rise towards 20 degrees. This is especially likely to happen in the East of the Netherlands. In the cooler air it will only be about 13 degrees.”

But what good is the temperature if you don’t know whether it will be dry or rainy? Rico can say with certainty: “The weather consists of clouds, occasional sun and a daily chance of rain. During the dry moments the weather is great for a walk or bike ride.” With a bit of luck it will rain during Easter breakfast and you can then stroll through the Wilhelmina Park with sunglasses on.
If the conversation comes to a standstill during Easter breakfast or Easter brunch, you can always throw in a weather saying:
- If Easter falls in April, the freezer will be at a standstill
- Easter in March is worthless
- Early Easter is early summer, late Easter is late summer

Warmest and coldest Easter
The weather at Easter can vary from year to year. This is not only because the date of Easter varies greatly, but also because the weather in spring is always erratic. The difference between the warmest Easter and the coldest Easter is big, says Rico: “In 2011, the maximum temperature in De Bilt was almost 25 degrees. During Easter 1964 the average temperature was only 4.2 degrees.”
