THE HAGUE – Day trippers and tourists will use the Easter weekend en masse to hit the road, the ANWB expects. The crowds start on Thursday afternoon, when people drive home from work and recreational traffic starts at the same time. That was good for the busiest rush hour of the year last year with 1,491 kilometers of traffic jams. According to the traffic information service, the crowds are mainly felt in the center of the country and in North Brabant.

On Good Friday, many German tourists drive to the coast or the Wadden Islands. Motorists who drive from the German border or want to head to Zeeland must therefore exercise patience. They also have to take queues into account for the boat to Texel.

During Easter, De Keukenhof, the Designer Outlet in Roermond and the Zandvoort circuit are particularly popular, causing traffic congestion in the area. Work on the Benelux tunnel is once again causing inconvenience in the Rotterdam region. The tunnel will be closed in a southerly direction from Friday evening until Monday morning. The A27 is also closed this weekend, between the Hooipolder and Gorinchem junctions.

Returning tourists will cause traffic jams again on Easter Monday in the afternoon and the ANWB also expects a very busy morning rush hour on the Tuesday after the long weekend. Last year it accounted for 844 kilometers of slow-moving and stationary traffic.
