EDERVEEN – A serious traffic accident occurred on the Meikade in Ederveen on Friday and Saturday night.
The driver of a moped was found around 3:30 am by two young girls on the asphalt of the Meikade. The driver appeared to be seriously injured and unconscious. Two ambulances were deployed to provide assistance. A trauma team from Volkel called in made a so-called Rendez Vous at the Veenendaal exit with the ambulance teams. The victim was then rushed to the hospital in Utrecht.
The moped rider crashed head-on into a tree on the right side of the road from the direction of Lunteren. It is not known how long the victim had been lying on the road surface. It was clear that the boy had been seen at an entertainment venue in Wekerom about an hour before the report.
It is still unclear how the accident could have happened. The police are investigating this further. The police also examine whether it was a one-vehicle accident or whether several people were involved in the accident, and whether the driver was driving under the influence. The Meikade is closed for the time being for research.
A rendezvous means that the ambulance and the air ambulance agree on a landing location. At this point the trauma doctor can board the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
