“It actually happens quite often that people don’t come,” says Ilona Wielemaker of Adrz in the radio program Zeeland Wakes Up. 7 to 8 percent of people do not show up for an outpatient appointment.

That is annoying for several reasons. “There is a doctor ready, there is staff ready. Sometimes equipment is reserved. If the patient does not show up, there would have been a spot there for another patient.” With the staff shortage and the increasing waiting lists, this is even more of a shame.

It is also not financially convenient. “If you imagine that a patient does not show up 20 to 30 thousand times a year and that such an appointment might cost a hundred euros in total, then you can calculate for yourself that we would prefer that everyone wake up. appointment is coming.”

That’s why people are now called in the evening, a day or two before their appointment. Not everyone, there is no capacity for that. History is looked at, for example who has not come to an appointment before.

“Then we call ‘gee, are you aware that you have an appointment? Are you coming?'” According to Wielemaker, these are actually “quite nice conversations” and they also receive that assessment back from the patients after a trial. “It really has an effect,” she also says.

The Adrz will start calling from next week. If the patient does not come, another appointment can be scheduled and this should help reduce the increasing waiting lists.
