Fewer tiles in Groningen ensure better water drainage after rain showers. This prevents the sewer from becoming overloaded and is also good for the groundwater level. In addition, tiles retain a lot of heat in the summer, while plants provide a cooling effect, according to Milieucentraal.nl.

Participate in the NK Tegelwippen

The municipality of Groningen is participating in the NK Tegelwippen this year. As a resident you can participate and deliver the tiles for free. Are you curious about the rules of the game? You can read that here. Perhaps redundant to mention, but you are only allowed to remove your own tiles. So don’t light tiles in your neighbor’s garden. At the end of the competition, on October 31, it will be determined which municipality has collected the most copies.

Tile position

The NK Tile Wipping has been in existence since 2021. During the three editions, a total of almost 9 million tiles were removed. This year the 10 million barrier could be broken.
