New guitarist Smashing Pumpkins chosen from ten thousand responses to vacancy | Music

The Smashing Pumpkins posted a vacancy at the beginning of January for which all interested parties could apply. This resulted in more than ten thousand entries.

“Judging these incredible musicians was a monumental task. I would like to thank everyone who submitted material,” says band member Billy Corgan. The 57-year-old frontman indicated that it was not an easy choice due to the large number of registrations. “I was a fan of Kiki before she submitted her name for eligibility – and it’s great that someone with her wit will be part of our family.”

The 35-year-old Wong, who previously played in the band Vigil of War, is already an established name in the music world and has a large following on social media. She has 675,000 followers on Instagram and more than 1.3 million followers on TikTok. “I am honored to have been chosen to perform alongside some of the greatest and most influential rock musicians of all time,” said Wong. “As a fifteen-year-old metalhead, I never thought I would achieve this.”

Wong is expected to take the stage on The Smashing Pumpkins’ European tour this summer, followed by a North American tour later this year.

The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the best-known rock bands in the 1990s. The band scored a modest hit in the Netherlands with 1979 and made the albums, among other things Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
