The judge in Arnhem will rule on Friday morning in the case brought by Pegida leader Edwin Wagensveld against the municipality of Arnhem. The case concerns the restraining order imposed on him because he wanted to hold a Quran burning.

Wagensveld is not allowed to come to Arnhem for six months. He wants the area ban to be lifted and has applied for a provisional injunction to attend a demonstration in the Gelderland capital on Saturday.

Wagensveld was banned from the area because he wanted to burn a Koran in Arnhem last Saturday. That was forbidden, but he still wanted to come.

According to Mayor Ahmed Marcouch, this could lead to very serious disorder and even terrorist danger. Wagensveld and other Pegida members may be the target of an attack, it became clear on Wednesday during the hearing of the lawsuit.

Wagensveld was arrested in the court in Arnhem on Wednesday after he dragged a Quran on a dog leash on the ground just before entering. After the hearing he had to go back to jail. He was released again in the evening.

The Public Prosecution Service will later decide on possible prosecution for violating the emergency order.
