The police have seized the car of an 84-year-old man in Sprang-Capelle after he drove off the road under the influence. It turned out that the man had not had a valid driver’s license for years.

The elderly man from Rotterdam got himself into trouble when he lost control of his car on the Bevrijdingsweg in Brabant. He drove his car off the embankment and came to a stop near a ditch.

When alerted officers asked him for his driver’s license, he handed over a self-made and laminated driver’s license. His real driver’s license turned out to have been declared invalid two years ago, Omroep Brabant reports.

The man also appeared to be under the influence: he tested positive for the use of prohibited substances. Because it is not the first time that the Rotterdam resident has come into contact with the police for similar reasons, his car has been seized.

It will be decided at a later date how the man will be prosecuted and whether he will get his car back.
