SAINT ANTHONY | Bibi Cornelis from Leander Primary School in Sint Anthonis won the Brabant final of the National Reading Competition for groups 7 and 8 on March 29! Second and third were Krijn Liefrink from Primary School De Smelen from Valkenswaard and Luc Hanssen from Primary School ‘t Palet from Heeswijk-Dinther. On Wednesday, May 22, Bibi will represent North Brabant during the national final of the National Reading Competition group 7-8 in Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht.

Bibi previously won the reading competition at her school, then the regional round of the Mill and Sint Anthonis region organized by BiblioPlus. This was followed by the semi-final of North Brabant and last Friday the grand final of this province. Bibi read from Het Werkstuk by Simon van der Geest. The Brabant final of the National Reading Competition for groups 7-8 took place on Friday evening, March 29, at the Jan van Besouw Cultural Center in Goirle. Eight reading champions read from their favorite book to the audience and the jury. The jury, consisting of children’s book writer Jolanda Horsten, library director Dorine Prinsen and children’s book writer Jacques Vriens, had the difficult task of choosing three winners.

The National Reading Competition is an initiative of the Reading Foundation and the Public Libraries. With this annual competition, the library sector shows that reading aloud is not only fun, but also very important. This year it is the 31st^ste edition of the National Reading Competition for groups 7-8. As in previous years, the province of North Brabant has the most school champions; No fewer than 615 Brabant candidates were registered for the preliminary rounds.
