Just a little history lesson. From 1515, the Netherlands – then still the Netherlands – belonged to the Holy Roman Empire, led by Charles the Fifth, the Spanish king. At that time, Vlissingen was teeming with Spanish soldiers, who misbehaved very much. At a certain point, the people of Vlissingen had had enough, which resulted in an uprising on April 6, 1572. With success, because Vlissingen was the first city that the Spaniards expelled with their own hands.
From tearjerkers to bouncy castles
There is a lot to do again: there is a flea market and crafts market on the Lange Zelke, there are great musical and theatrical acts throughout the city center and there are all kinds of fun children’s activities on the Oude Markt from afternoon to late evening. to experience. Of course there is also a historical parade and the famous thundering sermon cannot be missed. Furthermore, the hanging of Don Pacheco is also on the program – don’t worry, this is a child-friendly affair. The day ends in De Piek with a great concert. Above all, it will be a festive day celebrating freedom!
