Two months later than planned, the Mining Damage Institute Groningen (IMG) has managed to make an offer to 2,600 objectors. Half of them opt for a one-off amount of money. That costs the IMG about 28 million euros.
At the end of November, the IMG offered a total of 2,600 objectors the option to receive a sum of money if they no longer felt like waiting for clarity about their objection. The IMG decided to approach these victims personally step by step.
Deadline exceeded
The claims desk did not meet the deadline it had set for itself at the end of January. Two months later we managed to make an offer to all objectors. Half of them have now made a choice.
The vast majority of them opt for the one-off amount of money. These 1,312 households will now receive compensation for all damage – including damage that was not recognized as mining damage – and an additional amount of 5,000 euros as compensation for having to wait for years in some cases. The IMG pays out a total of 28 million euros to these households.
Thirty households do not agree
Thirty objectors have so far rejected the offer and therefore do not agree to the quick compensation. Despite the longer processing time, they want a regular decision on their objection. Half of the objectors, also approximately 1,300, have yet to make a choice.
In the near future, the IMG will contact this group of objectors who have not yet made a choice. The claims desk also approaches a small group of objectors who have to deal with a special situation, for example a change of ownership or death.
