“Toot.” It’s Ukrainian for ‘Here.’ ‘We are here.’ That was the text of President Volodymyr Zelensky the day after the invasion by the Russians. “Toot. The president is here, our armed forces are here, the citizens are here.” An act of utmost courage. How can we also ‘stay here’? Keep our backs straight? Show courage?
Theater collective De Theatertroep, De Players Federation, theater maker/historian Arjen Arnoldussen and comedian Patrick Nederkoorn share a fascination for the unlikely career of their former colleague. The makers have delved into Zelensky’s life. How did his career progress? Who was and is he surrounded by? And is president of Ukraine the role of a lifetime? Based on speeches, interviews, songs from Zelensky’s cabaret group Kvartal 95 and new scenes, they have created a performance about the life of the president.
