Fiona Bos (33) is in the race to become Miss Universe Netherlands. The resident of Meppel is one of the sixty finalists. “A big surprise but I am very proud.”
On April 13, she will compete with four other finalists from her own province for the title of Miss Universe Drenthe. The winner advances to the national final. The Miss Universe pageant was founded in 1952 and is the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world. “This is one of the reasons why I am participating,” Fiona begins. “It is one of the most popular beauty pageants in the world. The election is big news every year throughout the world, including in the Netherlands. It is therefore special and honorable that I have been selected.”
Age limit
Since this year, married women and mothers are also allowed to participate in the election. The age limit of a maximum of 28 years has also been loosened. Reason for Fiona to register: “In the past I once participated in a beauty pageant. Then I was in the final. Now that the age limit has been loosened and mothers are allowed to participate, I immediately decided to register. I want to go on the adventure one more time,” she says. “In a beauty pageant you develop yourself as a person, it is good for my self-confidence and I get to know a lot of nice and special people. I have very fond memories of my first beauty pageant. Memories and learning moments that I was able to use later in my personal development.”
“And now I am one of the fourteen selected mothers who can participate. I find that very special because in this way I can show that a woman can still participate in a pageant even after motherhood. My daughter, who is almost four years old, is also one of my biggest motivations for participating. I want to make her proud, so that she can later say: ‘That beautiful mom of mine did that beautifully.’ Now I just try to enjoy it.”
Simavi Foundation
The beauty pageant is not just about appearance and presentation. “We are committed to the Simavi foundation. The foundation is committed to providing safe and clean drinking water for women.”
The grand final day will take place on Friday, July 5 in Studio 21 in Hilversum. The eventual winner may represent the Netherlands at the Miss Universe 2024 election in Mexico.
