Zuidwolde – Pests can cause many problems in and around the house. But in which province are residents most affected by this? Most requests for a pest controller come from South Holland. This is evident from an analysis by Homedeal. The fewest applications come from Zeeland.

Homedeal investigated which pests cause the most nuisance in which province. For this purpose, an analysis was made of more than 12,000 requests for pest controllers. On average, South Holland has the most requests for a pest controller per inhabitant. Zeelanders are least bothered by pests. On average, the fewest requests for a fighter are made in Zeeland.

Woodworm and longhorn beetle

Is the wood in or around the house severely damaged? Then you may be suffering from the longhorn beetle or woodworm. The longhorn beetle is a beetle whose larvae of most species live in wood. The larvae of longhorn beetles can eat away at kilos of wood and are for this reason also called woodworms. Residents in South Holland suffer from this the most. Woodworm and longhorn beetle are also abundant in North Brabant and Gelderland.

“In wooded areas we see that the woodworm and longhorn beetle are very active,” explains Stefan Vos of Pest Control. “For example, I recently visited a customer who had brought old wood from the forest, but he did not know that it contained longhorn beetles. The longhorn beetle then went about its business and within a short time had holes in his laminate. This is an increasing problem in forest areas.”

Sniffed from the rats

Do you suddenly hear noise in the attic or do you have gnawed skirting boards out of nowhere? Then you may be bothered by mice or rats. In South Holland, most requests are made for a mouse and/or rat exterminator. This nuisance is also significant in Gelderland and Utrecht.

“Rats and mice are a common nuisance in urban areas. They are attracted to waste. The more people there are, the more rats and mice,” says Vos. “There is usually less nuisance from insects in these urban areas, because there is simply less nature there.”
