Inflation in the Netherlands rose again in March to 3.1%. This is evident from new figures from Statistics Netherlands. In February, inflation had actually fallen compared to January. Inflation in the eurozone will continue to decline.

In February there was still a decline in inflation in the Netherlands. It was 2.8% at the time, while in January it was still 3.2%. Inflation for the food, beverages and tobacco group also rose slightly, from 2.7% to 2.8%.

Eurozone disinflation
Eurozone inflation fell from 2.6% in February to 2.4% in March, according to new figures from the European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat. In Europe, food inflation continues to decline. Food, alcohol and tobacco became 2.7% more expensive on an annual basis in the eurozone, while this was 3.9% in February and 5.6% in January. Processed food, alcohol and tobacco were 3.6% more expensive in March than in March last year, while unprocessed food became 0.4% cheaper.

Dutch inflation according to the European method of calculation (HICP) in March was the same as the Dutch figure (CPI) at 3.1%, while that of February was slightly lower (according to HICP 2.7% and CPI 2.8%).

Inflation also rose in Belgium, from 3.6% in February to 3.8% in March. This was also the case in Italy (from 0.8% to 1.3%) and Spain (from 2.9% to 3.2%). In Germany, inflation actually fell from 2.7% to 2.3%, just like in France, where inflation was 3.2% in February and 2.4% last month.
