As a school leader, you and your employees shape the development of the school as a professional organization. You promote a professional culture and lead or support improvement and innovation processes. Whether you are a novice or experienced school leader, you will undoubtedly be faced with issues that you do not have an immediate answer to. Examples of such questions are: How do I provide sufficient guidance for my innovation team and at the same time give them the necessary space and ownership? How do I communicate expectantly, without asking too much? How do I involve my driver in this process? How do I ensure that knowledge is better shared? In the intervision process ‘leading school development’, practical issues are central to the discussion with colleagues.

Informal learning within an intervision process

Together with fellow school leaders, you will discover what role you can take as a leader in school development and how you can make a positive contribution to this. During five physical meetings, you will discuss cases that the participants themselves introduce in an informal and frank manner and you will experience that an issue can be viewed from different perspectives. Attention is also paid to the professional standard. This provides a framework for reflecting on your role as a school leader.

  • School year 2024-2025
  • Five physical meetings of 2.5 hours in your region
  • Six to eight participants
  • An intervision supervisor who has been trained by the secondary education academy
  • Participation is free of charge, but not without obligation. We expect you to attend all five meetings.

What does it yield?

  • You have more control over the (possible) interpretation of your role in school development
  • You get to the core of your specific issue more quickly
  • You reflect on your own leadership qualities based on the professional standard and discover your strengths and weaknesses
  • You will gain new insights regarding school development
  • You connect with other school leaders

The participants of the intervision program last school year rated their participation with an average of 8. One of them described the program as follows: “It is very useful to organize time for your own learning. Intervision helps with your own reflection and thinking, and it is inspiring.”

Would you like to know more about what intervision can bring you? Then read the stories of these former participants:
Vanja Goossen, director of the Van Haestrecht College in Kaatsheuvel
Chris Ver Boven, department head of the lower secondary education at Kranenburg Praktijkonderwijs in Utrecht
Leanne Hijink-Elbertsen, department head of pre-university education, Johannes Fontanus College in Barneveld

Who can participate?

The intervision process is intended for all school leaders in secondary education: from middle managers to ultimately responsible school leaders. Because the groups are divided by region, you may be in a group with colleagues who have a slightly different position. If you have a preference, please indicate this in the registration form.

Where are the meetings?

The intervision groups meet regionally. The Secondary Education Council has divided the Netherlands into these regions. View the overview of the regions here, so that you can see which region you want to register for: Regions – VO council. During the 2024-2025 school year, there will be five physical meetings of 2.5 hours at a school of one of the participants. We therefore recommend that you participate in the region where your school is located.

When are the meetings?

The provisional dates are:
Region 3 Southwest: 12/09 – 19/11 – 17/01 – 18/03 – 07/05
