Android Authority has received a Rabbit R1 apk ‘from a tipster’, allowing the AI assistant software to be installed on an Android smartphone. The site installed the apk on a Pixel 6a, with which ‘part’ of the R1 software can be used.

With the R1 apk, the R1 launcher can be used as an Android app, writes Android Authority. The volume down button then works like the R1 button, with which you can operate the assistant. Because the R1’s screen has a relatively low resolution, the R1 app only takes up part of the Pixel 6a’s screen.

The site managed to get the AI assistant working, but did not test other R1 integrations, such as the camera function and Spotify. It is therefore not clear whether all R1 functions work. The site suspects not, because the software determined system level permissions required, not all of which could be provided by telephone.

It is not clear who the tipster is and how he or she obtained the R1 MOT. In a response, Rabbit talks about ‘bootlegged emulators’. The company says the R1 runs a modified version of Android. Third-party versions, such as the apk that Android Authority uses, are therefore not officially supported. Founder and CEO Jesse Lyu also says he has blocked R1 cloud connections, which required the apk used by Android Authority.
