Nearly 500 drivers were ticketed during a speed check on the N282 between Breda and Tilburg on Wednesday. They were driving too fast on a section where the road is under construction. Barely a week ago, Bouwend Nederland made a plea to increase safety for road workers. According to the trade association, traffic should be more firmly restricted in places where road work is being carried out.

The speed control on the N282 seems to prove Bouwend Nederland right again. Nearly 7,000 vehicles were checked this Wednesday. Due to work at Rijen, the maximum speed there is now 50 kilometers per hour instead of 80 kilometers per hour.

Of the almost seven thousand cars checked, about 7 percent were driving too fast. That is approximately 490 vehicles. The highest speed measured was 84 kilometers per hour, the police said in a message on internet platform X.

Bouwend Nederland came up with its cry for help after six motorists lost their driving license during the weekend of March 23 and 24 when they rushed past construction work on the A58 between Breda and Tilburg. A driver went all out: he drove drunk at 200 kilometers per hour past road workers at night.
