Two weeks ago, the AD wrote about meetings where interested Dutch people can obtain information about emigrating to Russia and Belarus. The organizer of those information sessions told the newspaper that Walters had attended such a meeting in Arnhem.

Walters does not confirm her presence, but does write on the website of her party Hart voor Hilversum: “There has been a publication about my private participation in an information meeting about small-scale organic farming in Belarus and Russia. Organic farming is becoming increasingly difficult in Europe, but apparently it is impossible for you to explore whether organic farming would be possible in countries outside the country.”

Fuss ‘distracts’

The reason why she is resigning from her work as alderman is because she believes that the fuss distracts ‘from effective management by me and the municipal council of Hilversum’. She writes: “The publication of my private exploration draws me into the sensitivity of national political themes.”

The mayor and aldermen of Hilversum wrote in a statement ‘that the discussion that has arisen about her future plans as a private person is detrimental to her functioning and that of the Hilversum municipal council’. The council thanks Walters for her ‘unbridled commitment to Hilversum’. The city council will discuss the situation created by the councilor’s departure next week.
