A parked car in Utrecht that had been searched for for a week and a half by a family from Rosmalen (North Brabant) has been found. A reporter from RTV Utrecht found the car in a parking garage this afternoon.

The 70-year-old owner of the white Nissan had parked the car somewhere in the city on the morning of April 18 and then cycled to an appointment in the city center to save on parking costs. After the appointment he no longer knew where the car was.

“My father’s short-term memory is deteriorating,” son Evan Mertens previously explained at RTV Utrecht. “But it is the first time he has not been able to find the car.”

Cycled 7 kilometers

The family suspected that the man cycled 7 kilometers to the center of Utrecht after parking. This could be read from the odometer of his bicycle. The car was probably parked south of Utrecht or north of Nieuwegein.

The family had made a map and colored in all the areas that had already been searched. The son had already searched in Kanaleneiland, Westraven and parts of Hoograven.

During the morning, the family received dozens of tips, but the bus was initially not found. The reporter eventually found him in a neighborhood where no search had yet been done.

The family told the regional broadcaster that they are happy that the car has been found. “It can be that simple,” says Evan Mertens. “I can hardly believe it is still standing anywhere.”

The family will pick up the bus as soon as possible. And then something comes into it that allows them to always find it.
