The exhibition of the winning works from the ‘Van Gogh for everyone’ project has been opened in the Van Gogh House Drenthe in Nieuw-Amsterdam/Veenoord. Students from various technasia from Drenthe have made prototypes of three Drenthe paintings by Van Gogh, so that they can also be experienced by the blind or partially sighted. The three winning works were selected by a jury and can now be seen in the Van Gogh House Drenthe.

Henk Lukken, project leader of the Technasium Foundation, was full of enthusiasm when he saw how the students got to work. The project group, including Heily Stoel-Snater (chairman of the Van Gogh House Drenthe) and Henriëtte Herbschleb (director of Dutch Tech Zone), was impressed by the creativity of the students. With valuable input from experienced experts, the students were able to empathize with life without or with limited vision and the challenges that entails, especially when it comes to enjoying art.

Three winning works

Last year, three winning projects were selected by an expert jury, from the Hondsrug College in Emmen, the Nieuwe Veste in Coevorden and the Nieuwe Veste in Hardenberg. These projects were seen as the most promising for further development into useful art objects. At the time of the competition, the Van Gogh House Drenthe was still under renovation, so the winning works could not be exhibited immediately. But last Friday the time finally came. Together with the creator of one of the winning projects, councilor for art and culture of the municipality of Emmen, Dewi Leal, opened the exhibition.

‘The combination of technology and art with a social task appears to have been inspiring and educational for the students. It offers many opportunities for collaboration and new perspectives. Moreover, in this way we actively involve young people in art and culture and various target groups.’ A nice win-win situation according to Heily Stoel-Snater.

Visitors can see the works of the technasium students and experience how art can also be experienced with senses other than sight until the end of May. The Van Gogh House Drenthe is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
