On April 9, 10 and 15, the school performance “Maral, the girl who turned into a bird” shown for all groups 7/8 in the municipality of Midden-Groningen. The students were very impressed by the story about a refugee girl and the performance offered a nice opening for a conversation with the students afterwards at school.

Cultural menu

The school performance is part of the Cultuurmenu: an art program that Kielzog offers in collaboration with the municipality of Midden-Groningen to groups 1 to 8 of all primary schools. During the year, each group is offered music, theater, dance or visual workshops and a suitable theater performance. The workshops are based on the theme: Orientation on yourself and the world. The Culture Menu is available for all primary schools in the municipality of Midden-Groningen. Earlier this year, groups 1/2 and 5/6 also saw theater performances in the Kielzog theater hall. The school performance of groups 3 & 4 is scheduled for June.

About the performance Maral

Gerda Griffel is a fairy tale writer. One day she is assigned to write a true story. Gerda frantically searches the newspaper for inspiration. There she comes across the story of twelve-year-old Maral. How does she find out what happened to Maral? And does Gerda get that story on paper without turning it into a fairy tale? Maral, a girl who turned into a bird tells the story behind a newspaper headline about a girl who fled. Maral climbs out of the newspaper, through Gerda Griffel’s living room, straight into the hearts of the audience.

Councilor Annemiek Hoesen: “The lessons and performances offered in the field of cultural education by Kielzog are a nice addition to the general knowledge that children receive in primary schools. In addition, the collaboration between the schools, Kielzog and the municipality in the field of the cultural menu is a good example of making culture accessible to everyone in our municipality.
