The municipality is working on a new housing plan for Utrecht. Councilor Dennis de Vries therefore took to the streets on Wednesday to ask Utrechter to think about this plan.

The councilor believes that Utrecht residents should be able to contribute ideas about the municipality’s plan on the theme of housing. He therefore took to the streets on Wednesday to ask city residents to complete a survey in which they could share their experiences.

“We want a plan that Utrecht residents can identify with, with solutions to problems they encounter in the residential area.” The input of the resident is essential for this, according to the alderman. ”We shout invites everyone to think along and complete the survey on our website.”

Housing crisis

With the current housing shortages and prices, the housing market is under tension. De Vries: “In Utrecht we are committed to the transition from the housing market to public housing, in which we can focus more on one of our most important ambitions: a nice, affordable place to live for everyone. Based on this ambition, we will be working on a new plan for living in Utrecht in the coming year.”

The resident’s input is the first phase on the way to the new housing plan. The answers from the surveys help the municipality provide direction and identify the most important stumbling blocks. A follow-up participation process will start in the second half of 2024 based on the outcome of the first phase. The municipality will decide on the new plan in 2025.
