RODEN – The cultural action month “Colored Gray” is organized in Drenthe in April especially for seniors. A month with performances, lectures, tours and creative workshops at museums, artists and cultural institutions throughout the province. The Scheepstrakabinet devoted an entire afternoon to poetry albums. Seniors were welcome to bring their own poetry album and share it with others. There was a large turnout and many poems and rhymes were recited. Nowadays children share a Friends Book with each other or family members, but in the past this was a poetry album. The poem usually appears on the right page and a “poetry picture” on the left page. Finally, all kinds of decorations are applied and letters are embellished. “I love this album, whoever steals it is a thief. He has to sit on a slat with seven nails in his hole. Until he shouts “Mercy Lord”! Oh, how my hole hurts!”
