The Hereweg driveway towards Julianaplein will be permanently closed on Thursday evening. “This ramp will be retired at 7 p.m.,” reports Aanpak Ring Zuid.

Because the southern ring road between Hereweg and the Oude Winschoterdiep is being deepened, there is no longer room for a driveway from the Hereweg to the main carriageway of the southern ring road.

New connecting road

The entrance and exit ramps at Hereweg will eventually be replaced by a new connecting road (50 km/hour) between Brailleweg and Hereweg. This two-way road runs parallel to the southern ring road and will open at the end of 2024. The current ring road still stands in the way of further completion of this road. The intersection at Hereweg to which the new road connects also still needs to be converted.

Traffic will soon be able to reach Julianaplein via this new road from Hereweg and vice versa.

Demolish southern ring road

The entrance ramp from Hereweg towards Julianaplein is already closed because phase 3 of Operation Ring South will start demolishing the current southern ring road, so that the sunken location on the west side and the east side can be completed. This third phase starts April 27 and lasts until May 5.

Alternatives to car traffic

There are various options for traffic from Hereweg to Assen or Drachten. According to Aanpak Ring Zuid, the most logical route to reach the A28 towards Haren and Assen from the Hereweg is via the Verlengde Hereweg, the Van Ketwich Verschuurlaan and the A28 Groningen-Zuid ramp.

From Hereweg, motorists can reach the A7 towards Friesland in two ways. This can be done via Van Ketwich Verschuurlaan and Laan Corpus den Hoorn. This route is possible until July 26. The entrance to the A7 will then close at the Corpus den Hoorn/Stadspark roundabout from July 26 until August 30. During this period you can take the ramp at Groningen-Zuid towards Julianaplein and drive via the new Julianaplein to Hoogkerk/Drachten.

The second option is via the Van Iddekingeweg and the Vondellaan. From May 6 you can take the new ramp towards Hoogkerk/Drachten. Traffic will then flow directly into the new connecting arc. This ramp is open until July 29, after which it will close again until September 2.
