On April 24, the Municipality of Westland received a delegation from Ukraine, consisting of approximately 50 people, at Tomatoworld. The visit is part of a week in which a delegation from the war-affected country in the Netherlands came to see how greenhouses can play a role in reconstruction.
The day started at Tomatoworld with a reception by councilor Peter Valstar, followed by an informative introduction about Tomatoworld by interim director Aart Van den Bos. Aart emphasized Tomatoworld’s commitment to data-driven approaches. Then, guide, Ank van der Meulen, shared insights into the challenges of feeding a growing world population.
Ukrainian delegation
The Ukrainian delegation, including about fifteen mayors and thirty to forty representatives from the horticultural sector, spent three days in the Westland region. This visit was aimed at promoting direct cooperation between Dutch and Ukrainian stakeholders, especially in the field of horticulture.
During the tour, guests had the opportunity to explore the greenhouse and learn more about growth processes, energy consumption, biological crop protection and water conservation. The conversations also focused on logistics and sustainability, covering topics such as energy efficiency and circular solutions.
Delegation
The delegation continued its tour to KUBO Greenhouse Projects in Monster, where further exchanges took place on important topics such as greenhouses, horticulture and AGRItech. The delegation showed enthusiasm by actively participating in the discussions and asking questions. This visit marks an important step in strengthening ties between the Netherlands and Ukraine in the field of horticulture. It emphasizes the value of international cooperation in addressing global food supply challenges.
