Obèche Noir® is a thermally modified type of wood also known as Ayous or Abachi. This type of wood is common in West Africa and undergoes a thermal process to obtain its beautiful slightly shiny brown color. The thermal modification of Obèche Noir® ensures that the wood is upgraded to durability class 1, making it very resistant to deterioration. In addition, the process makes the wood more stable and reduces shrinking and swelling behavior. This makes Obèche Noir® particularly suitable for facade cladding, sheds, garden and noise barriers. The wood has a luxurious and sleek appearance because it contains virtually no knots and shows minimal wood grain. Due to its low density, Obèche Noir® always a fire-retardant treatment is required to comply with the building code.
