Living with care at the Waterman: purchase agreement signed

--

A small-scale, affordable residential care location for 22 residents with dementia will be built at the former school location on Waterman in Hoogezand. The purchase agreement for the land was signed this morning by councilor Erianne van der Burg of the municipality of Midden-Groningen and director Jeroen Kleinjan of healthcare organization Dagelijks Leven. Immediately next to Het Woldwijckhuis, as the location of Dagelijks Leven will be called, real estate developer Domi Projecten is realizing two lifelong homes, with options for care at home.

A scoop for Daily Life: first Groningen location

The Woldwijckhuis is the first Groningen location of the care organization Dagelijks Leven, which is already strongly represented in the rest of the Netherlands with almost 100 residential care locations. A special milestone,” according to director Jeroen Kleinjan. “We want care as we provide it to be available to everyone who needs it. That is why living with us is affordable, even with only AOW income. Our modern residential care locations are always in the middle of the neighborhood, we have a spacious garden and a chef who provides a fresh meal every day. Together with the residents who enjoy cooking. Because participating in daily life, continuing to do what you have always done, that is very important to us.”

The Woldwijckhuis will soon have 21 studios, with a kitchenette and bathroom, one of which is especially for a married couple. Director Jeroen Kleinjan: “Each resident furnishes his or her studio according to his or her own wishes, with familiar furniture and decoration. We also have an activity room and two shared living rooms, where residents can eat together, watch television, drink coffee and have a chat. Our spacious garden has an open gate, so residents can go out independently as long as it is safe to do so.”

Available (school) locations in Central Groningen

This new use of a former school location fits within the action plan of the municipality of Midden-Groningen to realize more housing at this location. In total, there are 22 places in the municipality where (school) buildings have been or are being demolished to make room for housing or where the buildings are being renovated and adapted to make housing possible.

Councilor Erianne van der Burg: “We are happy with these homes for people with dementia. For this group of people it is nice to be able to live as independently as possible but with support. This also fits well with our objective of having 1,350 new homes built by 2030 in order to reduce the shortage on the housing market. I am proud of this beautiful addition to our community!”

Start construction

Construction of Het Woldwijckhuis is expected to start in August this year. The opening is planned for next spring.
