Why choose a new campus? Over the years, Vekoma has grown considerably and there has been an increasing need for more logistics space. After the fire in the early 1990s, the company chose to install temporary offices. These now have insufficient capacity, are illogically laid out and no longer comply with current legislation and regulations.

Current situation

Spread over more than 4.5 hectares, there are currently several buildings in Vlodrop with different functions, including a factory, warehouse, offices and storage area. Other locations where the company carries out work are a factory in Roermond, where full track production is carried out, and an office in Breda. Vekoma also rents various storage locations for track and spare parts, among other things. In short: too much fragmentation.

Due to the lack of capacity, storage options and the datedness of the location, research was conducted into a solution. The Vlodrop location has a special history for Vekoma, is easily accessible for current employees and offers the right facilities.

The new campus

The new Vekoma campus will be created on the former football fields. The campus will have an innovative and high-quality character and is also representative of Vekoma’s identity. In a green environment, the role of the campus is to support the connection between employees and the production processes.

Innovative

In addition to the development of approximately 300 workplaces, the Vlodrop attraction builder has opted for the realization of two production halls, a spacious warehouse and a multi-storey office building, including meeting rooms and a restaurant. All buildings are equipped with the latest technologies to support employees in their work as effectively, efficiently and innovatively as possible.

By repositioning the head office, assembly and warehouse, space is created on the current site on Schaapweg. The current offices will be (partly) demolished and rebuilt to accommodate full production here. Vekoma therefore combines two locations (Roermond and Vlodrop) within one area.

Sustainability

In order to properly comply with current legislation, sustainability will receive full attention for the campus to be built and the new location for track production. That is why Vekoma uses the DCBA method (aimed at limiting environmental damage) and a comprehensive approach to strengthen this ambition. The potential for sustainability certification will be explored in depth; such as the BREEAM certification (method to assess sustainability) or the WELL certification (method to measure human health in a built environment).

Sustainability is also high on the agenda during the conversion of the current offices to the track production location. Extra attention is paid to climate control and optimizing working conditions.
