Palm Sunday at the Orthodox parish of Groningen

Today, Sunday April 28, Palm Sunday was celebrated in the Orthodox Church. Palm Sunday will be the entry of the Lord into Jerusalem named. It is one of the Twelve Solemnities of the liturgical year, and the beginning of Holy Week. The day before is Lazarus Saturday and commemorates the resurrection of Lazarus from the dead.

At half past ten Chrysostom Liturgy. This liturgy is the Divine Liturgy or Sacred Liturgy used in most Eastern Christian rituals for the Eucharistic service. The Greek Catholic and Orthodox Churches see the Divine Liturgy as something that transcends time and the world.

After the celebration, a Palm Procession took place in the center of Groningen.

Since 1968 there has been a Russian Orthodox parish in Groningen, part of the Moscow Patriarchate. The Russian Orthodox Church, like the Greek Orthodox Church, the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Romanian Orthodox Church and other Orthodox national churches, belongs to the Eastern Orthodox Churches.

They are the continuation of the tradition of the undivided Christian Church of the first centuries, which was separated in 1054 into the Eastern Orthodox Churches on the one hand and the Roman Catholic Church on the other.
