A family from Rosmalen (North Brabant) has been looking for a parked car in or around Utrecht for over a week and a half. The 70-year-old driver cannot remember where he parked the car on April 18.

The owner of the white Nissan parked the car that Thursday morning and then cycled to an appointment in the city center to save on parking costs. After the appointment he no longer knew where the car was.

“My father’s short-term memory is deteriorating,” son Evan Mertens explains at RTV Utrecht. “But it is the first time he has not been able to find the car.”

Cycled seven kilometers

The family suspects that the man cycled seven kilometers to the center of Utrecht after parking. This could be read from the odometer of his bicycle. The car is probably parked south of Utrecht or north of Nieuwegein.

The family has made a map and colored in all the areas that have already been searched. The son has now searched in Kanaleneiland, Westraven and parts of Hoograven. Mertens says he has informed the municipality and police, but they indicate that they cannot do anything.

They hope to still find the car with license plate S367VK. “You think: it’s just a car. But my parents are very stressed about this. And the more stress, the worse the memory becomes. So this doesn’t help,” said Mertens.
