“Everyone must adhere to the law, including companies,” says Hans Arissen, who has already sent a request for enforcement to the province. The Sluiskil resident has been concerned about the dust for years. According to Arissen, it ends up everywhere: “On cars, windowsills and – much worse – in our lungs.”

“This nuisance must end,” says Arissen. “That is why I have asked the province to intervene. They must enforce and enforce that there is a roof over those mountains of ash.” And he’s not the only one. “Certainly not. Many people have already requested the letter to ask for enforcement and will certainly send it.”

Research program Argos revealed this week that many industrial companies are not adhering to stricter rules to combat air pollution. These have been in effect since this year. The new Environmental Act states that companies that store ‘dust-sensitive substances’ must do so covered.

Bottom ash, among other things, is stored on the site of waste processor Heros. The ashes there are regularly sprayed with water, but the storage is not covered. The company previously stated that they were not aware of the new law.
