Student association Common House Elliott is housed in the old post office of Middelburg. However, the post office closes its doors at the end of the academic year. The association’s board writes in an email to students that it is not financially feasible to keep the doors open. Students from University College Roosevelt (UCR) could study in Elliott. There was a student pub in the basement of the building, where there was also a lot of partying. This is reported by Omroep Zeeland.

The Common House Elliott Foundation signed the lease in 2012. The student bar in the basement was an eyesore for many local residents. They were afraid of students causing nuisance. The students finally arrived at the post office in 2014. The building has several study areas, a number of classrooms, a café and places where workshops are held, for example.

New group of students

Every year the board appoints a new group of students. The Elliot Association only really suffered a blow during the corona period. The bond with the student community became increasingly poor. It became more difficult to recruit new students for a task within the board, but less income and rising costs did not make it easy.

Financial support

UCR supported the student society financially, but it was not possible to keep everything running. The last day of classes at the UCR is on Friday, May 17. Elliot is therefore open for the last time. The classrooms can continue to be used after May 17.
