Rijswijk is one of the three most dog-friendly municipalities in the Netherlands. There are a total of about 1.9 million dogs in the Netherlands. This means that 1 in 5 households has a dog. It is therefore important for every dog ​​lover that their municipality has a good dog policy. That is why the Raad van Beheeren van Honden and the Royal Dog Protection Association have launched the initiative to award an annual prize to the most dog-friendly municipality in the Netherlands.

A number of dog lovers have nominated the municipality of Rijswijk for the 2024 edition. Of the 13 nominated municipalities, Rijswijk has now reached the top 3. You can now vote on the poll for most dog-friendly municipality in the Netherlands on the site www.meesthondvriend.nl. The winner will be announced on May 29 during the Municipal Animal Welfare Policy event in Ede.

Mystery visit

To determine which of the three municipalities will be the winner, the jury of the Royal Dog Protection Association will surprise these municipalities with a ‘mystery visit’ to see how the dog policy is and is experienced in practice. The jury then returns to the municipality with additional questions based on their visit and the information previously provided, such as the new dog card of Rijswijk.
