GOES – The construction of the new fire station Goese Poort, on the ‘s-Heer Hendrikskinderendijk in Goes, has started. On Wednesday, councilor Joan Veldhuizen of the municipality of Goes and director Joke Gaemers of the Zeeland Safety Region (VRZ) gave the starting signal by symbolically driving the first pile of the barracks into the ground.

“We largely use circular and bio-based materials during construction, such as wood and marmoleum,” the municipality of Goes writes in a press release. ‘The materials are also reusable. We are also building the barracks in a nature-inclusive manner. This means that we consciously make room for animals in the area. For example, we are making openings for bats to build their nests and there will be an insect hotel in the tower. A flower dike and nature-friendly bank attract many birds and insects.’

The councilor states that sustainability, nature and safety come together in the design of the new fire station. ‘We are proud of this beautiful example of ecological and socially responsible construction in Goes.’ European subsidies have also been made available for this.

March 2025

The fire station will have three stabling areas, offices, changing rooms, a training area and sanitary facilities. ‘We expect the barracks to be completed in March 2025. Then the fire brigade can move in.’ The new fire station will replace the temporary station on Troelstralaan in Goes.

Gaemers: ‘With this barracks, the west of Goes will be provided with fire service for the coming years and ready for tomorrow’s reports. Together with the municipality of Goes, a barracks has been developed that fits in with the environment and at the same time is a new home for the firefighters of Goese Poort.’
