Hotel Schimmelpenninck Huys has been taken over and will remain open, but Broodhuys will close immediately

The Schimmelpenninck Huys went bankrupt due to corona debts. Bart Reints Bok acts as spokesperson and is pleased that the takeover was completed this Thursday. “It’s great that it happened so quickly. The staff now has certainty that they can get back to work and that the hotel will remain open.” He and new owner Robert Vegter also had discussions with the hotel’s fifty employees this afternoon.

The quick takeover has ensured that the hotel has not been closed for a day. Most employees still remain employed. “At least around 35 people will remain employed. There were also people who were affected by the bankruptcy and who are now ready for a new challenge.”

‘Certainly not profitable with current energy prices’

Bakery Broodhuys will close immediately. “It is too difficult to make it profitable again. That is why we decided together with the accountant not to try that. Especially in these times with high energy prices, it is simply not profitable,” says Reints Bok.

According to him, Vegter was already planning to take over the hotel. This seemed to be put to an end due to Friday’s bankruptcy, but the takeover has now been successful after the curator agreed to Vegter’s offer. According to Reints Bok, Vegter plans to continue restoring the hotel. “The facade will be as we speak finished. The hotel must regain the grandeur it once had.”
