A new weekend also means new tips. DUIC has once again listed seven fun events to attend this weekend and the following days. There is plenty to do!

DANIQUE

Where: The hill

Amstelveen Danique Ruby became known with her hit Papa Mama. She went viral on TikTok. Songs such as Uitlokekt and Later Als Ik Groot Ben quickly followed and these were also popular no time in the charts. She has only been making music for three years, but she is already big. The TikTok star sings about family, sadness and love. She will perform her songs on Friday, May 3 in De Helling. Sing along and enjoy her catchy songs!

Mentos Grand Prix of the Netherlands

See emerging talent on the verge of breakthrough! Stars such as Eefje de Visser, WIES and Typhoon have already won the Mentos Grand Prix of the Netherlands. Theater after the Dam

With Theater na de Dam, theater makers and artists throughout the Netherlands are committed to providing extra meaning to the evening of National Remembrance Day. Short performances about war, hope, occupation and freedom can be seen throughout the building of the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht. Important themes on this special day. Young people from Youth Theater School Utrecht, among others, will perform a number of monologues and dialogues. These stories are about their own connection with May 4 and 5, but are also based on stories from the area.

Utrecht Memorial Stories

Where: Salon of Yesteryear

On May 4 we commemorate both the victims of the Second World War and those who died in other armed conflicts. But the commemoration is about more than the victims who lost their lives during wars, according to narrator and actor Frans de Wit. Commemorating today is about considering how we can safeguard life tomorrow. Based on some Utrecht stories, De Wit wants to give you a realistic sound about the importance and value of commemoration. The wreath-laying ceremony on Dam Square in Amsterdam will be watched on a large screen in advance via a streaming service.

Liberation Festival Utrecht

Where: Park Transwijk
When: Sunday May 5 at 12:00 noon

‘Until Everyone is Free!’. That is the theme of the annual Liberation Festival in Park Transwijk this year. There is only freedom when everyone is free. The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East show that not everyone lives in freedom. Hence the overarching theme for Utrecht Liberation Festival 2024: Until everyone is free! Claude, Bankzitters and Rolf Sanchez, among others, will perform in Utrecht.

Cairokee

One of the biggest Arab bands, Cairokee, is coming to Utrecht! The band became known for its catchy music and stirring lyrics, both at home and abroad. Their songs are often about life in contemporary Egyptian society. The name of the band is a play on words between Cairo and Karaoke. The five-piece, founded in 2003, consists of Amir Eid (vocals), Tamer Hashem (drums), Sherif Hawary (guitar), Adam El-Alfy (bass) and Sherif Mostafa (keyboards). They will be performing new material and some of their older songs.
