The first reports of the fire came in around 11:15 am. The signal ‘fire master’ was given around 1.40 pm.

Photos and videos show meter-high flames shooting out of the roof of the barn. There was also quite a bit of smoke released. Local residents were advised to close windows and doors and turn off mechanical ventilation if they were bothered by the smoke. Water extraction in the area was somewhat difficult, so additional fire trucks with water had to be brought from all over the region.

According to a spokesperson for the North Holland North Safety Region, the barn completely burned down. The fire brigade was afraid that the fire would spread to an adjacent building, but that ultimately did not happen. They are still busy extinguishing the fire, because there are still many smoldering remains.

No asbestos, but shards of glass

It was rumored that asbestos had been released during the fire, but the safety region announced after an investigation that this was not the case. The safety region does warn about glass shards that may have been scattered in the vicinity of the fire. The solar panels on the roof of the shed also went up in flames. The owners of the gardens will be informed about this.

Nothing is yet known about the cause of the fire.
