Typhoon, Merol and Son Mieux are on stage today in Assen during the Drenthe Liberation Festival. In addition to national stars, there is room for regional talent. To help you get the most out of today, we have listed the most important things. Good to know: admission is free.

People from Assen naturally know how to get to the festival grounds at Baggelhuizerplas by bike, but what if you come from further away? Then it is advisable to use public transport. Qbuzz uses extra buses.

A bus runs every ten minutes from the train station to the Baggelhuizerplas, making stops in the center and at De Bonte Wever. The extra buses run from 11 a.m. to 1:45 a.m. Of course they also return to the railway station six times an hour. From there continue by bus? Plan it in advance at Qbuzz.

Still going to Assen by car? Then park at the TT Circuit. From there a shuttle bus goes to the Drenthe Liberation Festival. And anyone who is brought alone, after which the driver returns home by car, can be dropped off at the Kiss & Ride on the Zoom.

The address of the Drenthe Liberation Festival is Baggelhuizen 9.

Wheelchair users can access each stage between the stage and the barriers. A wheelchair-friendly platform has been built at the RTV Drenthe Mainstage, and toilets for wheelchair users can also be found next to it.

Everyone can celebrate freedom, especially children. The festival site has bouncy castles, an obstacle course and large Lego blocks. Children can have their faces painted, blow big bubbles and enjoy children’s theater. The children’s program runs from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

Lost a child? Next to the children’s square there is a point where you can be reunited with your offspring, near the Ferris wheel.

You must pay with coins at all catering points. You can buy these at various points of sale, you can pay in cash or by card. A coin costs 3.50 euros, half coins are also available. The coins are only valid today.

Anyone who buys a beer, wine or soft drink will receive it in a hard cup. That will cost you an extra coin, but that is a deposit. For your next drink, you hand in the empty cup, so you only pay the drink price for a new drink. After your last drink you can hand in the cup, after which you will receive a coin back, for a last snack, for example. “Or you scan a QR code from the cashback terminal and a fee of 3 euros will be deposited into your account. This only applies to whole cups with the Cupconcept logo,” the organization reports.

To visit the toilet you need a wristband, to get one you have to hand over a coin. With the band you can then go to the toilet as often as you want.

Drugs, laughing gas balloons, weapons, fireworks, aerosol cans, glass and cans are ‘absolutely prohibited’, the organization reports. You are also not allowed to bring your own food and drinks. You cannot enter the festival site with a go-kart (nor with a bicycle, skates or pets). If the organization sees you handing out flyers or promotional material, they will also point you to places outside the festival site.

The freedom fire will be brought from Wageningen to Assen. Running group Kloosterveen will travel 140 kilometers so that the freedom fire can be lit in Assen at 12.15 pm.

It is the opening of the festival, and Tineke Ceelen will tell her story. She is director of the Refugee Foundation and regularly visits places where people only dream of living in freedom.
