Hockey players Groningen almost safe after a great win in Delft

--

Thanks to a nice 3-1 win over number two Ring Pass Delft, the Groningen hockey players are almost certain of staying in the promotion class.

With two matches to go, including a meeting with the already relegated Little Switzerland, Groningen is not yet completely certain of maintaining their position. At the same time, coach Julian Steen’s team still has a small chance of qualifying for the play-offs towards the main league.

Steen saw his team play well against Ring Pass Delft. After Groningen had killed off a few chances, the home team made it 1-0. Liz Klompmaker restored the balance in the first quarter.

Nice backhand

In the third quarter, Merel de Wit gave Groningen the lead with a tip-in. An exciting last quarter then followed, but with a beautiful backhand, Floks van der Beek ended the match a few minutes before the end.

“There was little to criticize about this victory,” said Steen. “I think we should have scored more goals, so that it can no longer be exciting at the end. Next week we can definitely play it safe and in theory we still have a chance of the play-offs for promotion. It’s all very close together in this competition and that’s nice.”
