Omroep Brabant starts experiment with AI presenter

--

Omroep Brabant will start an experiment with an AI presenter from this Monday. We had our presenter Nina van den Broek ‘cloned’ by smart software. With this we can have her videos presented. Both in image and in sound. Omroep Brabant is therefore the first media party to use a real person via AI to make videos.

“This experiment is quite progressive. Using AI in this way is new and experimental. But as an innovation broadcaster, we are happy to take on that challenge,” says editor-in-chief Renzo Veenstra. The technology is used to create simple videos for the website and app. This is not used on other channels such as television.

“We were looking for a method with which we can create easily presented videos,” Veenstra explains the experiment. “With this AI presenter, we can produce simple videos in a very short time. These can be a nice addition to our messages. But we also want to respond to the trend in society that young people and people with low literacy prefer to watch videos rather than read stories. We We hope to be able to offer them something extra.”

AI stands for artificial intelligence, or artificial intelligence. It is a term used for software that can perform difficult tasks that previously required human input. By using AI, you can have a machine perform tasks that were previously thought to require human intelligence. You can also use AI to teach a computer program to imitate someone’s voice and expressions. That piece of technology is used for this experiment.

Omroep Brabant is going to test it to see if it works, what needs to be done differently and whether we find it useful and useful. We are also curious about the reactions of online viewers.

Editor-in-chief Renzo Veenstra is not afraid that the test will harm the reliability of the broadcaster. “We don’t think so. We clearly state in the video that the presenter was created via AI, but the content of the video and the images are of course real. Moreover, the text and images are composed and written by a flesh-and-blood journalist .”

In this video we tell you more about the experiment:
