Annoying, but it happens deliberately: by skipping Tilburg University station, the Dutch Railways want to prevent a train from being completely canceled due to delays. In 2023, this happened no fewer than 271 times.

This puts Tilburg University head and shoulders at the top of the list of most skipped stations in 2023. The station is followed by Nijmegen Dukenburg (167 times) and Nijmegen Goffert (166 times).

Angry letter

Previously, Rector Magnificus Wim van de Donk wrote an angry letter to the NS on behalf of Tilburg University. He asked the railway company to take more account of students and employees. According to the university, the decision to sometimes skip the station can have far-reaching consequences for the study progress and well-being of students:

‘Many students are regularly confronted with the train passing Tilburg University station and then being late for a lecture or exam. In the latter case, a student may no longer be allowed to participate in the exam at all, with all the consequences that entails.’
