Bart van Hanegem (20) is currently in his third season at vv Terneuzen. Last season he convincingly won the title in the 3e Class A of Sunday football. The club decided to switch ‘horizontally’ and therefore now plays in the strong Saturday 2e Class E where it operates in the broad middle bracket.

“Our main goal that we have set is enforcement. But it has already become apparent that you have to be alert every week and mainly collect points. Because almost all teams can win against each other, but they can also lose against each other. Only MZC’11 and Heinenoord stand out a bit, from fourth to tenth place there are only a few points. So it is important to score points against the teams against which you have to score points, such as against WHS, among others.”

The young attacker’s team started their Saturday football adventure poorly, as the first five matches yielded only three points. “That was really mediocre indeed. And then you immediately have to give chase and work hard to get away from the bottom quickly. We played pretty good football, but we didn’t win and those were disappointments. But we have since recovered well from that.”

Van Hanegem himself, whose father was also a guarantee for many goals as an attacker, is reasonably satisfied with his performance so far. “It’s certainly not bad, but when it comes to effectiveness and effectiveness, it certainly needs to be improved. At the winter break I had ten goals, but I am not satisfied with that. In my opinion, a striker at a team like Terneuzen should score at least fifteen per season. I hope to at least end up there, because otherwise I don’t think I’ve done a good job.”

Self-critical as he is, he hopes that his team will succeed in competing in the second division next season. A good level says the former youth player of IJzendijke and JVOZ. After a stay at the Youth Football Training Zeeland, he ended up at Terneuzen at the age of eighteen, the team where father Adri also played for one season. “After JVOZ, I started here three seasons ago with the JO19. After the winter break I joined the first team and have hardly left the base since then. So you can certainly say that it was a more than good choice.”

But the scoring striker hopes that there will be more in the tank for Terneuzen in the long term than what is coming out now. “We have a selection with some older players, but otherwise it is mainly a very young group. That sometimes happens with variability and trial and error. But there is a lot of talent there and if we can keep things together here for a few seasons, then I see it positively.”

How long he will continue to be a part of this remains a matter for the future. “I would like to get the most out of it in terms of sport, although I will have to take some time next season when it comes to the football game. I will then be going abroad for a year to study ‘International Business’. Six months in Frankfurt and half a year in Spain. So that will take some switching, I think.”

That is why he now enjoys extra every week when he is on the field and tries to contribute with hard work, assists and goals. “Maintaining and getting results is one thing, but it’s nice to score every now and then. I am currently the club’s top scorer and that is how I would like to end the season. For me as an attacker, that is extra nice.”
