Did you know that dog poop can be dangerous for pregnant cows?
Dog feces can contain the parasite Neospora. This parasite is not dangerous to dogs, but it is dangerous to pregnant cows. Infection with Neospora is an important cause of premature or stillborn calves.
How does the cow become infected?
In most cases, the infected cow passes Neospora to her unborn calf. Or the farm dog transmits the disease through its feces. Strange dogs that relieve themselves on the verge next to the pasture also pass on the parasite. Many dog owners do not know this. They let their dogs run free next to meadows where cows graze or where grass for cows grows.
what can you do about it?
We ask you to keep your dog on a leash and to clean up the poop yourself. This way you help farmers prevent contamination of their cows.

Let us know your need for electric driving and shared mobility
We would like to encourage electric driving and the use of shared vehicles. In 2022 we conducted a needs assessment into the use of shared mobility. This year we are repeating that research. To know what you think about it now, and whether this has changed in recent years. Would you like to complete the questionnaire for us? This is possible until May 15, 2024 via http://www.westerkwartier.nl/deelmobiliteit.
Why drive electric?
The municipality of Westerkwartier is a vast municipality with many small centers. The distances are often large. We therefore often have to rely on the car. Most cars still run on fossil fuels and therefore emit CO2. The municipality of Westerkwartier wants to focus on reducing these CO2 emissions. To achieve this, we want to encourage electric driving, among other things.
Your own car or shared car?
You can drive electric with your own electric car, but it is also an option to use an electric shared car. A shared car is a car that is parked at a central location in the village or neighborhood and which can be used by neighbors at a certain rate. This shared car can, for example, replace a number of second cars owned by residents in the area.

Voting with the tuning mold and sound box
On Thursday, June 6, voters at the Leek town hall polling station can use a voting template with audio support through the sound box.
Who is the voting mold suitable for?
 blind and partially sighted people;
 people with word blindness;
 people who have difficulty reading and writing;
 people with limited hand/arm function (think of Parkinson’s patients, for example).
How does voting with a voting template work?
A polling station employee places the ballot paper in a specially developed mold with holes. Through the soundbox with headphones you will hear which parties and candidates are on the list. You will also hear the number of the desired party and the candidate you want to vote for. The parts on the mold are indicated with tactile numbers and in Braille. You can find the right candidate by counting the holes under the desired party. Use the pencil to make the desired box red.
