The next international outdoor exhibition of Into Nature can be seen in 2026 in the De Onlanden nature reserve. The art platform will also choose the landscape in the north of Drenthe for various other projects in the near future.

In the summer and autumn of 2026, the municipality of Noordenveld – in which De Onlanden is located – will celebrate the cultural year in Drenthe. Into Nature enhances this event with its international outdoor exhibition. The works of art created especially for this can then be viewed at various locations in the area between Eelderwolde and Roderwolde.

A project has already been started in which De Onlanden is central. Five artists from Drenthe examine certain aspects of the area based on their own interests. They will present the result of the project, a collaboration between the Art & Culture Foundation and the recently established initiative of Drenthe artists Kuunst.nu, at the end of 2024 under the name Inhale-Exhale. It is not yet clear where exactly that will be.

It is also the intention that Into Nature will develop various other projects in relation to De Onlanden over the next two years, including projects with emerging artists from the northern region.

Artistic director Hilde de Bruijn is enthusiastic about the choice of De Onlanden. She calls De Onlanden a ‘young swamp area that serves as a water buffer’. She also sees that De Onlanden is an important link in ecology.

“Because we will only ‘give back’ more land to the water in the future, the question is how we can relate to the swamp again,” says De Bruijn about the creativity that will be required of artists in the near future. “We have therefore opted for the underlying theme of ‘reciprocity’ in our program. We would like to focus on the conversation about our thinking in terms of the usability of the landscape and nature.”

Into Nature already receives support from the province, nature management organizations, various funds and the municipalities of Noordenveld and Groningen. This summer it will also become clear whether the Mondriaan Fund, which finances projects for visual arts and cultural heritage, among other things, will provide a subsidy.
