Dance performance by Leefmeesters
Leefmeesters presents My 24 Hours a dance performance about living with a chronic illness. My 24 Hours consists of two duets and a trio that was created in part thanks to the dance company Ivgi&Greben.
“You often don’t think about it. That many people find it difficult to stand or walk. That sports and dancing are no longer possible. This performance puts a crown on the lives of these people,” says Marlien Seinstra, creator and founder of the new dance company Leefmeesters. The performance lasts approximately one hour, after which there will be a discussion and a short workshop program will be completed with the audience.

Tomato festival full of colour, taste and smell
At Dorpsstraat 122 in Eexterveen you will find Kijktuin De Hunzehof, where the Tomato Festival will be celebrated from Friday. In the first week of March, forty different varieties of tomatoes, pumpkins, zucchini and gherkins were sown. Now they grow in their own pots and grow like crazy in different colors, sizes, tastes and smells.
The viewing garden can be visited almost daily until May 25. In addition to vegetables, the garden also has stately hedges with hawthorn, hornbeam and field maple. These embrace the colorful borders with special plants, English garden, flowering orchard, macrobiotic vegetable garden and a large pond garden. You can walk along the paths and through the forest of the almost four hectare nature estate to the meanders of the Hunze River.

Former doctor’s house is opened
The doors of the former doctor’s house in Diever will be opened on Friday and Saturday. There are all kinds of activities to enjoy. You can make collages, get a massage and experience therapy sessions. Make a soul collage, experience a trial session on access bars, draw intuitively, buy unique gemstones at Frea or admire the paintings of Margriet Kroeze.

The Info Center of the Nienoord Estate in Leek welcomes you for the 18th time the Plantjesmarkt on Ascension Day. The annual market is a treasure trove of natural wonders and artisanal products. Wander through the variety of annual and perennial plants or buy refined herbs, honey and homemade jams and juices. In addition, nice accessories are offered, so there is something available for everyone.

Everything about Asparagus in the countryside
Have you always wondered how to grow and cut asparagus? You will learn all about it during the Asparagus excursion at Doornbosch Asparagus and Strawberry Farm in Borgercompagnie. Together with the grower you go into the field and discover everything about asparagus and why it is also called ‘white gold’. After the tour it is time for an asparagus tasting, accompanied by a nice wine. In the farm shop you will also find everything you need to prepare a delicious asparagus meal at home. The Asparagus excursion is part of Taste the white gold, a cycling route along asparagus and whatever else goes with it.
On Thursday there are also several other activities along the route that have a direct or indirect link with asparagus. In addition to Doornbosch Asparagus and Strawberry Farm, fellow grower Grol Asperges is open in Tripscompagnie with the farm shop and Meinardi in Noordbroek provides an asparagus tasting. Several restaurants serve asparagus from the region. Taste the white gold takes you past these and more locations. The Taste the White Gold cycle route can also be followed outside of Ascension Day.

Artists Matty de Vries and Tanja van Abbema exhibit from May 11 to 26 in the Piloersemaborg of Den Ham. In the exhibition attic you will find the atmospheric and mysterious paintings by De Vries and the elegant visual objects and wall sculptures by Van Abbema, composed of found materials. De Vries paints with her hands, so that she feels a direct connection with what she makes. Layer upon layer on weathered wooden panels, linen or cloth. Simple basic shapes emerge from the soft, earthy colors.
Then there is Tanja van Abbema. Walking on the dike or through the streets of Harlingen, she collects pieces of wood, stone or iron. She brings these found materials together in her visual objects and wall sculptures. She works intuitively, looking for new connections, harmony and beauty. During the exhibition there are also regular performances by classical guitarist Janco de Leeuw.
