VLISSINGEN – The Lasloods is currently being converted into a concert hall to be ready for the concert of the Dire Strait Experience, featuring Chris White on Friday, May 17. “The stage we built for May 5 will remain in place and will be further expanded,” says Louk Peperkamp of the Lasloods. With the first major concert in the agenda, the Lasloods is taking a new path. “We will organize larger concerts more often, for an audience of up to 1,500 people.”

If it were up to Louk Peperkamp, larger concerts would be periodically organized in the Lasloods from now on. “There is actually nothing left in Walcheren for concerts that can accommodate an audience of around 1,500 people,” says Peperkamp. “This used to be possible in the Arsenaaltheater and even longer ago, bands such as the Golden Earring and Anouk performed in the Baskensburg sports hall. We want to offer a stage where nationally known artists can perform. There is of course the Peak, the Spot and the Beast but that is all for smaller numbers. I like the fact that we can now have bigger bands in Vlissingen again.” According to Peperkamp, the Lasloods is ideal for larger concerts. “The location in Vlissingen and Walcheren is ideal. Such a concert lasts until about eleven o’clock, which means that visitors who come from further away can simply catch the train afterwards. We have improved the acoustics by hanging thick curtains. We will certainly be here for another ten years and can therefore make this investment.”

Dire Strait Experience
The first concert to be held in the Lasloods is the performance of the Dire Strait Experience. “Tribute bands are doing well at the moment. It will be a standing concert and that is a different experience than in the theater. This band’s rendition of Dire Straits music is awfully good. Chris White, the saxophonist, played with the original Dire Straits himself. For us it is also a test of how we like receiving bigger bands.”
